Josh Klinghoffer discussed his stunning removal from Red Hot Chili Peppers<\/a> for the first time on the latest episode of Marc Maron\u2019s WTF<\/em> podcast<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In December, the band announced<\/a> that Klinghoffer \u2014 who joined the band 10 years earlier as a replacement for guitarist John Frusciante \u2014 would exit the band in order to facilitate a reunion with Frusciante.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to Maron, Klinghoffer admitted the Chili Peppers\u2019 decision was a \u201ccomplete shock but not a surprise,\u201d and that there is no lingering animosity between himself and his former bandmates.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely John\u2019s place to be in that band. So that\u2019s why I\u2019m happy for him, I\u2019m happy that he\u2019s back with them,\u201d Klinghoffer said. <\/span>\u201cIf John coming back had happened five years ago, it would have been hard for me, temporally, to weigh [my work] against what they had. Now, after 10 years, two tours and almost three albums of writing, I\u2019m really proud of what I did with them. I feel like we did create something.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Klinghoffer also revealed to Maron how the band informed him, in person at Flea\u2019s home, about their decision to reunite with Frusciante. \u201cThey just said, \u2018We\u2019ll get right to it. We\u2019ve decided to ask John to come back to the band,\u2019\u201d Klinghoffer said. \u201cAnd I just sat there quiet for a second and I said, \u2018I\u2019m not surprised.\u2019 And the only thing I could think to say was, \u2018I wish I could have done something with you guys, musically or creatively, that would have made this an absolute impossibility.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Klinghoffer, like drummer Chad Smith<\/a>, confirmed that the band had been working on new material together prior to Klinghoffer\u2019s exit, but the fruits of those sessions will likely be scrapped.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following his exit from Chili Peppers, the guitarist has already booked his next gig: Taking his Pluralone project on the road as opener for Pearl Jam\u2019s upcoming tour.<\/span><\/p>\n
