Don\u2019t know what to do this weekend? Well, you\u2019ve come to the right place. Pull up a seat to the counter, and I\u2019ll tell you about everything that\u2019s hot and happening.<\/em><\/p>\n

Two events this weekend will put the \u201cfun\u201d in \u201cfundraising.\u201d Better yet, both are aimed at cancer relief. The first, a Funk Cancer Fundraiser at HighSide Brewing, is raising money to help a local family. The second, a poker run for Boarding 4 Breast Cancer at Copper Mountain Resort, supports the nonprofit\u2019s outreach events across the country in addition to survivor support programs and retreats. <\/p>\n

On Friday, Jan. 24, there will be a silent auction, raffle and concert at HighSide in Frisco. From 6-11 p.m., people can enjoy food from the Black Diamond Catering and Dos Locos Mexican Restaurant along with live music from local bands Hobo Village and the Chris Bauer Trio. Raffle tickets cost $5 each or $20 for five, and all of the proceeds will be donated to an anonymous family in need. The auction and raffle will have products from Rossignol, Podium Sports, The Bakers\u2019 Brewery, Alpine Veterinary Practice, Arva and others.<\/p>\n

Also on Friday is a silent auction and happy hour from 3\u00ad-7 p.m. at Ten Mile Tavern for Boarding 4 Breast Cancer. Then the real fun begins with the on-mountain poker run at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.<\/p>\n

Over a three-hour period, teams of all ages and skills will visit checkpoints around the village and on the hill to collect pink playing cards. Those with the three best poker hands at the end of the run will win various prizes from Yeti, GoPro, The North Face, Smith, Dakine and more.<\/p>\n

Participants are encouraged to wear their best pink costume as bonus cards are awarded for best pink spirit and attitude. An awards ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Center Village.<\/p>\n

The poker run costs $25 and doesn\u2019t include a lift ticket. Visit coppercolorado.com<\/a> for a complete schedule and to register.<\/p>\n

After day on the slopes, refuel at Next Page Books & Nosh. The bookstore is hosting a baking workshop with local cookbook author Vera Dawson, who also writes a high-elevation baking column published weekly in the Summit Daily News.<\/p>\n

Dawson will share valuable tips about ingredients, techniques and equipment so one can cook successfully in the High Country. As one who loves to bake but gets easily frustrated when my meringues fall flat and dry out, the knowledge is always welcomed.<\/p>\n
