Fifty-four years after illegally crossing the U.S. border in a Pontiac hearse, Neil Young<\/a> has become an American citizen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy to report I\u2019m in!\u201d the Canadian-born musician wrote on his website<\/a> after months of struggle to obtain his dual citizenship. Young explained to fans that the process had been delayed<\/a> because of the \u201cgood moral character\u201d provision on the immigrant application \u2014 meaning he admitted to smoking weed.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday afternoon, Young and his wife, actress Daryl Hannah, obtained his naturalization documents at the Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles. He celebrated in a video on his Instagram, singing \u201cI\u2019m proud to be a Canarican\u201d in the tune of \u201cGod Bless the U.S.A.\u201d while waving around miniature American and Canadian flags.<\/p>\n

Young kicked off 2020 by detailing upcoming archive releases<\/a> on his website, including concert films like 1990\u2019s Way Down in the Rust Bucket <\/i>and 2003\u2019s Greendale Live.<\/i> He\u2019s also planning to release the long-awaited legendary LP Homegrown, <\/em>and a live album with his 1977 Santa Cruz supergroup, the Ducks.<\/p>\n

He recently answered a new batch of fan letters on his site, candidly stating that while he has no current plans to tour, he will appear at Stephen Stills\u2019 Light Up the Blues<\/a> benefit concert for Autism Speaks in the spring.<\/p>\n
