{"id":803414,"date":"2020-01-24T07:26:59","date_gmt":"2020-01-24T14:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=942289"},"modified":"2020-01-24T07:26:59","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T14:26:59","slug":"john-densmore-robby-krieger-reunite-for-doors-performance-to-help-california-homeless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/john-densmore-robby-krieger-reunite-for-doors-performance-to-help-california-homeless\/","title":{"rendered":"John Densmore, Robby Krieger Reunite for Doors Performance to Help California Homeless"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The two surviving members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-doors\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-doors\" data-tag=\"the-doors\">the Doors<\/a> gathered an eclectic group of friends and peers Thursday, for a special one-night-only reunion performance at a charity concert in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/john-densmore\/\" id=\"auto-tag_john-densmore\" data-tag=\"john-densmore\">John Densmore<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/robby-krieger\/\" id=\"auto-tag_robby-krieger\" data-tag=\"robby-krieger\">Robby Krieger<\/a> were joined on stage by Nirvana\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/krist-novoselic\/\" id=\"auto-tag_krist-novoselic\" data-tag=\"krist-novoselic\">Krist Novoselic<\/a> on bass for the first-ever \u201cHomeward Bound\u201d concert, a fundraising event for PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), a non-profit focused on affordable housing and services for the homeless population in California.<\/p>\n<p>Densmore and Krieger were supported on the bill by Ingrid Michaelson, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Jason Mraz, along with an <em>American Idol<\/em> reunion of sorts, with sets by Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips, Season 16 winner Maddie Poppe, and Season 17 runner-up Alejandro Aranda (now known as Scarypoolparty). The two had teased surprise guests filling in for the late Jim Morrison on vocals (\u201cOur singer is in Paris,\u201d Densmore quipped), and they didn\u2019t disappoint, bringing out Eurythmics\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dave-stewart\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dave-stewart\" data-tag=\"dave-stewart\">Dave Stewart<\/a> and his daughter Kaya to open with \u201cHello, I Love You,\u201d off The Doors\u2019 third studio album, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2RNZTID\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>Waiting for the Sun<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another <em>American Idol<\/em> alum, Haley Reinhart, took the stage next, showing off her chops on a one-two punch of \u201cCrystal Ship\u201d and \u201cPeople Are Strange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis next tune is kind of prophetic for what this night is about,\u201d Densmore said, before inviting \u201cthe tantrum dude,\u201d Michael Fitzpatrick from Fitz and The Tantrums, on stage to perform \u201cRiders on the Storm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Into this house we\u2019re born<\/em><br \/><em>Into this world we\u2019re thrown<\/em><br \/><em>Like a dog without a bone<\/em><br \/><em>An actor out on loan<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The short set ended with Nelson trading licks with Krieger, and former Canned Heat harmonica player Stanley Behrens, on The Doors\u2019 classic 1970s B-side, \u201cRoadhouse Blues,\u201d before the performers gathered center stage for a final bow. Turning the attention back to the evening\u2019s cause, Krieger thanked the crowd for coming and half-joked that the next time he\u2019d be playing, it would be a free show for the homeless. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the concert went to PATH.
