But the smooth, soft opening was a feint \u2014 moments later, Tyler, the Creator was shrieking into the microphone, moving jerkily to \u201cNew Magic Wand.\u201d Soon an army of identically dressed dancers joined the rapper onstage to dance frantically as the set appeared to burst into flames. Tyler, the Creator ended his performance by falling backwards out of sight, seemingly plunging into the fire behind him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tyler, the Creator is up for Best Rap Album for <em>Igor<\/em> at the 2020 Gram<\/span><span class=\"s1\">mys. The rapper has two previous nominations, a 2017 Best Rap Album nod for<em> Flower Boy<\/em> as well as an Album of the Year recognition in 2012 for his work on Frank Ocean\u2019s <em>Channel Orange<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Igor<\/em> will face Meek Mill\u2019s <em>Championships<\/em>, Dreamville\u2019s <em>Revenge of the Dreamers III<\/em>, 21 Savage\u2019s <em>I Am &gt; I Was<\/em> and YBN Cordae\u2019s <em>The Lost Boy<\/em> in the Best Rap Album category at the 62nd Grammy Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Igor<\/em>, Tyler\u2019s fifth album outside of Odd Future, placed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/20-best-hip-hop-albums-of-2019-931888\/tyler-the-creator-igor-3-931908\/\">Number Five on <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s 20 Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2019 list<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/best-albums-2019-914750\/tyler-the-creator-igor-2-916978\/\">Number 12 on our list of the 50 Best Albums of 2019<\/a>. The rapper also recently dropped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/tyler-the-creator-new-songs-best-interest-group-b-930860\/\">a pair of new singles<\/a>, \u201cBest Interest\u201d and \u201cGroup B.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wilson \u2014 known for his hits in the Gap Band as well as his solo career \u2014 recently released a new single, \u201cForever Valentine.\u201d Bruno Mars <span class=\"s1\">serves as co-writer, co-producer and background singer on the track, which was written when Wilson appeared among the special guests on Mars\u2019 tour in support of <em>24K Magic<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe talked about the song\u2019s vibe for a while, put a chorus down and then didn\u2019t see each other for a while,\u201d Wilson said of \u201cForever Valentine.\u201d \u201cThen we ended up on the road together. We\u2019d sing every day at lunch time as we further hashed out the song,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The former Gap Band singer has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammy.com\/grammys\/artists\/charlie-wilson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">nominated for 13 Grammys<\/a> over the course of his career; remarkably, he has never won. His most recent nomination was in 2019 in the Best Traditional R&amp;B Performance for \u201cMade for Love.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cForever Valentine\u201d marks Wilson\u2019s first bit of new solo music since the release of his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/rb-veteran-charlie-wilson-talks-four-decades-of-chart-success-109901\/\"><span class=\"s2\">2017 album,&nbsp;<i>In It to Win It<\/i><\/span><\/a>.
