Liam Gallagher<\/a> surprise-released a live EP titled Acoustic Sessions<\/em> Friday and with it a new video for \u201cOnce,\u201d a Why Me? Why Not<\/em><\/a> track that appears in its original demo form on the EP.<\/span><\/p>\n

The one-shot video features Gallagher as chauffeur and servant at a regal but disheveled estate owned by a wine-guzzling king, played by French soccer star-turned-actor Eric Cantona. The video was helmed by Charlie Lightening, the director of the Gallagher documentary As It Was<\/em><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m absolutely thrilled to have Eric Cantona, the last Rock n roll footballer, star in my video for \u2018Once\u2019.  Songs like this don\u2019t come around very often and neither do football players like him,\u201d Gallagher tweeted<\/a> Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The eight-song Acoustic Sessions<\/em>, out now on streaming services<\/a>, features seven songs Gallagher recorded during his MTV Unplugged<\/em> broadcast from Hull City Hall in the U.K. in September 2019, including acoustic renditions of a trio of Oasis tracks, \u201cSad Song,\u201d \u201cCast No Shadow\u201d and \u201cStand By Me.\u201d Rounding out the EP is the early version of the Why Me? Why Not<\/em> standout \u201cOnce.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the original demo. It\u2019s my favorite version; it\u2019s silky smooth and it\u2019s fizzy bubblech,\u201d Gallagher said in a statement before quoting the Beatles\u2019 \u201cTomorrow Never Knows,\u201d \u201cTurn off your mind, relax and float downstream!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Keeping with the competitive spirit of the Gallagher brothers, the surprise Acoustic Sessions<\/em> arrives less than a day after Noel Gallagher\u2019s High Flying Birds announced<\/a> their own upcoming EP Blue Moon Rising<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
