Taylor Swift<\/a>\u2019s documentary Miss Americana<\/a><\/em> is available now on Netflix \u2014 and she\u2019s shared a lyric video for a brand-new song exclusively for the film, \u201cOnly the Young.\u201d<\/p>\n

The track soundtracks Swift\u2019s recent political awakening \u2014 documented in the movie \u2014 making reference to Election Night 2016 as well as the devastating school shooting epidemic that has rocked the U.S. over the past decade.<\/p>\n

Swift concludes that \u201conly the young\u201d can save the future and create change. \u201cThey\u2019re not gonna help us\/Too busy helping themselves\/They aren\u2019t gonna change this\/We\u2019re going to do it ourselves,\u201d she sings, backed by a children\u2019s choir.<\/p>\n

Miss Americana<\/em> follows Swift\u2019s retreat from the spotlight following a series of controversies  \u2014 including her refusal to endorse Hillary Clinton until very late in the election cycle \u2014 and her attempt to return with her albums Reputation<\/em> and Lover<\/em>. In an interview with Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, director Lana Wilson revealed that much of her focus was on portraying the pressure Swift had been under to be a \u201cnice girl\u201d in the public eye since she was a teenager.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think girls in our society are taught that other people\u2019s approval is of paramount importance to their self-worth,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cI really related to those questions of: \u2018Was I nice enough? Do they like me? Are people mad at me?\u2019 When I heard Taylor verbalize that, I was just like, \u2018Oh my God. I can\u2019t believe it. I can\u2019t believe it.\u2019 And I thought it would be so comforting and relatable to so many women to know that, even if you\u2019re a celebrity at the highest level, you still ask yourself those questions.\u201d<\/p>\n
