David Bowie<\/a>\u2019s unreleased 1997 version of the Tin Machine track \u201cBaby Universal\u201d is the latest offering from the Is It Any Wonder?<\/em> EP, a six-track EP highlighting rare tracks Bowie recorded in the Earthling<\/em> era.<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally recorded by the Bowie side project Tin Machine and released in 1991 as the penultimate single from Tin Machine II<\/em>, Bowie and Tin Machine guitarist and long-time collaborator Reeves Gabrels revisited \u201cBaby Universal\u201d in the studio while working on Earthling<\/em>; the track had reemerged as a live staple during Bowie\u2019s 1996 tour.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBaby Universal \u201997\u2033 was originally slotted to appear between \u201cI\u2019m Afraid of Americans\u201d and \u201cLaw (Earthlings on Fire)\u201d at the back end of Earthling<\/em>, but it was ultimately removed before its release. Despite subsequent expanded editions of the album, the version remained unreleased until its official dropFriday as part of the Is It Any Wonder?<\/em> EP<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI thought \u2018Baby Universal\u2019 was a really good song and I don\u2019t think it got heard. I didn\u2019t really want that to happen to it, so I put it on this album,\u201d Bowie said of the song in 1997. \u201cI think this version is very good.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Is It Any Wonder?<\/em> features fellow Earthling<\/em>-via-Tin Machine castoff \u201cI Can\u2019t Read \u201997<\/a>\u201d as well as Earthling<\/em>-era re-recordings of \u201cStay<\/a>\u201d and \u201cThe Man Who Sold the World<\/a>.\u201d The six-week unveiling of the EP\u2019s contents will continue with newly unearthed tracks on February 7th and 14th.<\/span><\/p>\n
