No cause of death was provided, but the band noted that Gill recently spent time in the hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis is so hard for us to write, but our great friend and Supreme Leader has died today,\u201d Gang of Four wrote. \u201cAndy\u2019s final tour in November was the only way he was ever really going to bow out; with a Stratocaster around his neck, screaming with feedback and deafening the front row.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The band continued, \u201cOne of the best to ever do it, his influence on guitar music and the creative process was inspiring for us, as well as everyone who worked alongside him and listened to his music. And his albums and production work speak for themselves. Gang of Four\u2019s 1978 debut LP <em>Entertainment!<\/em> was listed as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/500-greatest-albums-of-all-time-156826\/gang-of-four-entertainment-46048\/\">one of <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s 500 Greatest Album of All Time<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YI-9N-PasvM?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As Gang of Four\u2019s lone full-time member, Gill served as guitarist and producer on all nine of the band\u2019s albums, including 2019\u2019s Happy Now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHis uncompromising artistic vision and commitment to the cause meant that he was still listening to mixes for the upcoming record, whilst planning the next tour from his hospital bed,\u201d Gang of Four tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBut to us, he was our friend \u2013 and we\u2019ll remember him for his kindness and generosity , his fearsome intelligence, bad jokes, mad stories and endless cups of Darjeeling tea.
