The indie rock duo \u2014 consisting of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nate-ruess\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nate-ruess\" data-tag=\"nate-ruess\">Nate Ruess<\/a> of fun. and Sam Means \u2014 went on hiatus in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>While performing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/entertainment\/music\/2020\/02\/03\/the-format-reunion-phoenix-live-at-the-mayan-concert-album-film\/4650713002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">surprise acoustic performance<\/a> in Phoenix on Monday, Ruess explained the genesis of the reunion to the crowd.&nbsp;\u201cAbout a year ago, I was driving and I was listening on random, and <em>Interventions [+ Lullabies]<\/em> came on,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I was listening to it, and I was like, \u2018I should probably skip this.\u2019 And I listened, and I thought, \u2018Holy shit, this kicks ass. This is totally rad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band also dropped a 2007 concert film titled <em>Live at the Mayan <\/em>on all streaming platforms. The performance is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomerch.com\/collections\/the-format\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">currently available<\/a> on limited-edition white and turquoise vinyl.<\/p>\n<p>The band will perform two nights at New York\u2019s Bowery Ballroom on March 20th and 21st, as well as two nights at Chicago\u2019s Lincoln Hall, before concluding at the Van Buren in Phoenix on April 3rd.
