Lamb of God<\/a> return from a five-year hiatus with \u201cCheckmate,\u201d the first single from the metal group\u2019s upcoming self-titled album.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Checkmate\u2019 brings together all the components of the Lamb of God sound that we\u2019ve been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band,\u201d guitarist Mark Morton said in a statement. \u201cRe-energized and reignited, this is Lamb of God 2020. We\u2019ve never been more excited.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWatch the gears grind off their teeth<\/span>\/<\/span>The screeching halt machine digging heels in disbelief,\u201d frontman Randy Blythe growls on the track. \u201cTwo reactional identities, opposing policies<\/span>\/<\/span>A bait and switch routine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Later on the track, Blythe takes aim at the current state of the United States, \u201cDivide and conquer and close them in <\/span>and bury secrets deep\/<\/span>Make America hate again <\/span>and bleed the sheep to sleep.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Lamb of God<\/em>, out May 8th and available to preorder<\/a> now, is the band\u2019s eighth studio LP and first since 2015\u2019s VII: Sturm und Drang<\/em>. \u201cPutting only our name on it is a statement,\u201d Blythe said in a release. \u201cThis is Lamb of God. Here and now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The self-titled album also marks the band\u2019s first with drummer Art Cruz, who officially replaced founding member Chris Adler in 2019. Lamb of God<\/i> was produced by Josh Wilbur and features guests Hatebreed\u2019s Jamey Jasta and Testament\u2019s Chuck Billy. <\/span>The bulk of the album was written before Lamb of God were recruited to serve as special guests on Slayer\u2019s final tour, but Blythe and company didn\u2019t finish the album until after their Slayer obligations.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the five-year hiatus, Lamb of God revived their Burn the Priest moniker for the covers album Legion: XX<\/em><\/a>, featuring their take on songs by Bad Brains, Ministry, Melvins, Big Black and more.<\/p>\n
