David Bowie<\/a>\u2019s unreleased Earthling<\/em>-era semi-instrumental \u201cNuts\u201d is the latest installment in the Is It Any Wonder?<\/em> series, a six-week unearthing of rare tracks that the late icon recorded in 1996 and 1997.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNuts\u201d was recorded at the same November 1996 studio sessions that yielded Earthling\u2019s \u201cThe Last Thing You Should Do,\u201d with the intention that both would be bonus tracks for the album; however, the latter was swapped onto the album at the last minute in place of \u201cI Can\u2019t Read \u201997,\u201d which similarly is part of the Is It Any Wonder?<\/em> EP. \u201cNuts,\u201d however, remained unreleased.<\/span><\/p>\n

Largely instrumental \u2014 featuring Bowie doing distorted spoken word (\u201cWhat would you rather be doing?\u201d he asks at one point) \u2014 \u201cNuts\u201d boasts guitarist Reeves Gabrels and keyboardist Mark Plati, who provides the track with its jittery, restless drum programming.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNuts\u201d premiered Thursday on Mary Anne Hobbs\u2019 BBC show<\/a> ahead of its arrival on streaming services Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is It Any Wonder?<\/i> also features Earthling<\/i>-via-Tin Machine castoffs \u201cI Can\u2019t Read \u201997<\/span><\/a>\u201d and \u201cBaby Universal<\/a>\u201d as well as Earthling<\/i>-era re-recordings of \u201cStay<\/span><\/a>\u201d and \u201cThe Man Who Sold the World<\/span><\/a>.\u201d The final installment in the series will premiere February 14th, with Bowie\u2019s site also promising \u201ca final extra surprise\u201d alongside its release.<\/span><\/p>\n
