And who could blame them? Most Summit County resorts have received 2-3 feet of snow in the past two days.<\/p>\n<p>Many powder hunters who tried to drive up Friday were stranded along I-70 for hours after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/eastbound-i-70-closed-along-mountain-corridor-as-winter-storm-hammers-colorado\/\">40-mile stretch of the interstate from Morrison to the Eisenhower Tunnel closed shortly after 10:30 a.m.<\/a> and didn\u2019t reopen until nearly 11 hours later.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the closure, Summit County locals had the slopes mostly to themselves Friday, with the bonus of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/summit-county-schools-closed-friday-feb-7-due-to-heavy-snow\/\">school being canceled<\/a> on the powder day.<\/p>\n<p>One Dew Tour competitor called it \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/dew-tour-stars-ride-pow-friday-on-possibly-the-deepest-day-ive-ever-ridden-on-a-resort\/\">possibly the deepest day I\u2019ve ever ridden on a resort<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once Front Range powderhounds arrive, they\u2019ll be greeted by deep 48-hours totals across Summit County, but Breckenridge and Loveland are the big winners with more than 3 feet in the past two days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Breckenridge Ski Resort<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>48-hour total: 39 inches<\/li>\n<li>24-hour total: 20 inches<\/li>\n<li>Overnight: 6 inches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Loveland Ski Area<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>48-hour total: 39 inches<\/li>\n<li>24-hour total: 24 inches<\/li>\n<li>Overnight: 5 inches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Copper Mountain Resort<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>48-hour total: 32 inches<\/li>\n<li>24-hour total: 15 inches<\/li>\n<li>Overnight: 4 inches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Arapahoe Basin Ski Area<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>48-hour total: 29 inches<\/li>\n<li>24-hour total: 15 inches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Keystone Resort<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>48-hour total: 15 inches<\/li>\n<li>24-hour total: 4 inches<\/li>\n<li>Overnight: 2 inches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All that snow means most resorts are looking a delayed openings for at least some of their terrain Saturday. Breckenridge reported on its social channels that the lower mountain would open on time at 8:30 a.m. but that the high-Alpine terrain had no estimated time to open. They asked eager riders to be patient and \u201cthank a patroller\u201d while crews work to safely open lifts and terrain.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-facebook wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-facebook\"><\/figure>\n<p>Over at Loveland Ski Area, the 39 inches of fresh is untracked after the ski area was unable to open for the day Friday because of wind.<\/p>\n<p>Find the resorts\u2019 latest lift and conditions updates on Twitter:<\/p>\n<p>Those headed into the backcountry should use extreme caution as the avalanche danger is high in the Summit and Vail region, along with much of the rest of the state. An avalanche warning is in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrong winds and heavy snowfall have created very dangerous avalanche conditions,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/avalanche.state.co.us\/forecasts\/backcountry-avalanche\/vail-summit-county\/\">Colorado Avalanche Information Center forecast<\/a>. \u201cTravel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Any avalanche that releases naturally, or one that you trigger, can be potentially deadly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Partly cloudy skies Saturday morning hinted at the possibility of a bluebird afternoon before the next round of snow moves in Saturday night.
