Major League Baseball said they would stop running promotions for Roger Waters<\/a>\u2019 upcoming North American tour<\/a> following criticism from Jewish advocacy groups.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of an ad buy by AEG\/Concerts West, advertisements for tickets to Waters\u2019 This Is Not a Drill trek were shown on MLB<\/a> platforms. This drew the ire of Jewish organizations like B\u2019nai B\u2019rith, which has been critical of Waters for his support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

A representative for Waters declined to comment on the matter. AEG did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waters\u2019 views on Israel \u201cfar exceed the boundaries of civil discourse,\u201d the organization wrote in a letter to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred earlier this month.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cB\u2019nai Brith is saddened and outraged that baseball \u2013 the sport of Jackie Robinson, Hank Greenberg, Sandy Koufax, and Roberto Clemente \u2013 would use its online resources to publicize an individual with an alarming history of anti-Semitic hatred.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Major League Baseball initially said they would respond to B\u2019nai B\u2019rith in private, and on Saturday the league confirmed to the Associated Press<\/em><\/a> that \u201cthere are no plans to schedule any more [Waters] ads on the MLB platforms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear why MLB would house ads for the This Is Not A Drill tour since the trek will only visit \u201cin-the-round\u201d-capable arenas and not baseball stadiums; in 2011, on a still-active page on the MLB.com<\/span> site<\/a>, the league promoted Roger Waters\u2019 The Wall concert at Philadelphia\u2019s Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waters\u2019 summer tour begins July 8th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and concludes October 3rd \u2014 a month shy of Election Day \u2014 in Dallas, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs the clock ticks faster and faster and faster down to extinction, it seemed like a good thing to make a fuss about it, so that\u2019s why I\u2019m going on the road,\u201d Waters said of the tour. \u201cTo be blunt, we need to change the way we organize ourselves as a human race or die. This tour will be part of a global movement by people who are concerned by others to affect the change that is necessary. That\u2019s why we\u2019re going on the road. That\u2019s why speak to each other in pubs. That\u2019s why this conversation should be on everybody\u2019s lips, constantly, the whole time, because it\u2019s super important. So I hope you\u2019ll all come to the shows. This is not a drill.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
