{"id":804055,"date":"2020-02-11T10:11:26","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T17:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=950527"},"modified":"2020-02-11T10:11:26","modified_gmt":"2020-02-11T17:11:26","slug":"the-first-time-pop-smoke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/the-first-time-pop-smoke\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Time: Pop Smoke"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/pop-smoke-first-time.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/pop-smoke\/\">Pop Smoke<\/a> has had a hell of a year \u2014 within months of releasing his breakout single \u201cWelcome to the Party,\u201d the Brooklyn rapper has already collaborated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nicki-minaj\">Nicki Minaj<\/a> and Skepta on two remixes, and he recently backed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/travis-scott\/\">Travis Scott<\/a> on the song <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/travis-scott-pop-smoke-jackboys-gatti-video-932322\/\">\u201cGotti.\u201d<\/a> The track was featured on Scott\u2019s compilation EP,&nbsp;<em>Jackboys<\/em>, highlighting his new record label venture Cactus Jack Records.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-first-time\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-first-time\" data-tag=\"the-first-time\">The first time<\/a> I met Travis was his festival in Houston,\u201d Pop recently told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, referencing Travis Scott\u2019s Astroworld festival last November. \u201cThat was crazy, too. They gave me my own bottle, mad merch \u2014 different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While in the <em>RS<\/em> offices, Pop Smoke also discussed recent starstruck moments \u2014 meeting 50 Cent and Off-White founder\/designer Virgil Abloh, to name two \u2014 as well as his writing process for his new mixtape, <em>Meet the Woo, Vol. 2<\/em>, released last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never wrote [down] anything,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s all up my head. Everything that I be writing, everything that I be saying, when it comes to these types of songs, just be so natural. Just how I be feeling. However, some songs I do write, and you\u2019ll know the ones that I write, \u2019cause you\u2019ll feel it\u2026.I used to write poetry and all that crazy shit.
