This is for all the lonely hearts out there on another Valentine\u2019s Day xx.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The scene Smith samples is from one of Donnie Darko\u2019s therapy sessions in the film. Darko (portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal) is discussing his loneliness, and how he\u2019s never seen proof that he\u2019s not alone in the world; he calls the quest of searching for proof \u201cabsurd.\u201d \u201cThe search for God is absurd?\u201d his therapist asks him. \u201cIt is if everyone dies alone,\u201d he replies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes that scare you?\u201d she asks. Darko responds, \u201cI don\u2019t want to be alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/music-video\/\" id=\"auto-tag_music-video\" data-tag=\"music-video\">music video<\/a>, Smith is a lonely, disembodied mannequin head in a store window display, watching solemnly as happy couples walk past them day to day.
