{"id":804237,"date":"2020-02-16T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-16T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/?p=379100"},"modified":"2020-02-16T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-16T19:00:00","slug":"83-year-old-man-dies-after-falling-into-snowmass-resort-halfpipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/local-news\/83-year-old-man-dies-after-falling-into-snowmass-resort-halfpipe\/","title":{"rendered":"83-year-old man dies after falling into Snowmass Resort halfpipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/05\/PublicSafetyWebCard-SDN-1024x638.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>An 83-year-old man from Montrose died Wednesday after falling into the Snowmass Resort halfpipe Monday morning, Aspen Skiing Co. announced Friday.<\/p>\n<p>George Cort was identified Friday evening by the Pitkin County deputy coroner Eric Hansen as the person who died.<\/p>\n<p>Cort was found Monday morning by ski patrol who \u201cinitiated trauma protocol and transported the man to an ambulance,\u201d according to a news release from Skico vice president of communications Jeff Hanle.<\/p>\n<p>Cort was later transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Denver and died Wednesday evening, Hanle said according to Cort\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p>Hansen said Cort died of multiple blunt force injuries. The manner of death was accidental.<\/p>\n<p>According to the release, the accident, which happened about 9:15 a.m. Monday, was not witnessed by anyone and \u201cit appeared the man had skied off the deck of the halfpipe.\u201d He was wearing a helmet, Skico said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>The halfpipe at Snowmass is near the Coney Glade lift and is designed as a superpipe, which has walls that are 22-feet high and it is used for professional competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Weather conditions Monday morning included periods of fog and snow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur deepest sympathies are with his family at this time,\u201d Hanle said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about skier deaths in Colorado <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/skier-deaths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"in our in-depth three-part series.
