The aspiring DJ and producer, who performs as his artist alter-ego, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/notemarcato\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Note Marcato<\/a>, set in a motion an online game of \u201cGuess Who?\u201d as social media sleuths worked to figure out the masked man\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"4.6060606060606\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Give this skeleton his Grammy. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0uyRfHypbN\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/0uyRfHypbN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tranch (@JackTranch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackTranch\/status\/1221605005528047616?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">January 27, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While Beatz says he was surprised by the attention his son\u2019s makeup received (\u201cThe amount of phone calls and people hitting me up about him was crazy,\u201d he tells<em> Rolling Stone<\/em>), the producer says he\u2019s proud that Dean stayed true to himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought he was super brave,\u201d Beatz explains, prior to Marcato\u2019s performance at Deluxx Fluxx, a one-night art exhibit and party for <a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/2HwSY24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Marriott Bonvoy<\/a> and American Express card members that took over the West Hollywood EDITION Hotel Saturday night. \u201cOne thing that we do in the household is we let our kids express themselves, and he just showed up as his character, Note Mercato, and I was like, \u2018You know we\u2019re going to the Grammys right?\u2019 And he\u2019s like, \u2018Mm hmm, I\u2019m going like this.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know,\u201d Beatz concludes, \u201cI thought it really worked for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/2HwSY24\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-953810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/BFA-for-the-Marriott-Bonvoy-American-Express-Card-portfolio_5.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Swizz Beatz art collection event\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beatz served as the curator and guest DJ for Saturday night\u2019s event, which was put on in conjunction with the Dean Collection, the contemporary art and cultural platform he co-founded with Keys in 2014. As an avid art collector \u2014 Beatz has been collecting art for more than two decades and has reportedly amassed more than one thousand pieces from artists as wide-ranging as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/swizz-beatz-alicia-keys-art-collection-13359\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kehinde Wiley and KAWS<\/a> \u2014 the producer says it was important for him to bring art to the masses, through free events like Deluxx Fluxx, which brought to life characters created by the Brooklyn-based artist duo, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faile.net\/tags\/Deluxx%20Fluxx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">FAILE,<\/a>&nbsp;in a hyper-immersive, rave-like dance party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArt and music have been together the whole time,\u201d Beatz says. \u201cThere\u2019s no wrong way to do music [and] there\u2019s no wrong way to do art; you\u2019re just expressing yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same freedom of expression is what the 41-year-old hopes to instill in his kids. \u201cWe need to stop making people be what we want them to be, instead of just letting them be who <em>they<\/em> want to be,\u201d he says, \u201cand that is the biggest lesson I\u2019ve learned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf [my son] wants to wear his makeup and his costume and he\u2019s being respectful, then I\u2019m all for it,\u201d Beatz says. \u201cI give him the space to have his own sound, his own style, his own everything. I\u2019m here to love him anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for how Keys, his wife of nearly 10 years, handled a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/grammy-awards-secret-committees-945532\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contentious Grammys show<\/a>, Beatz calls the 15-time Grammy winner, the \u201cPeople\u2019s Champ.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe could\u2019ve bailed out on the Grammys at least 10 times before the bad news [of Kobe Bryant\u2019s death] happened, but she stuck it out. Her whole thing was like, \u2018You know what? I\u2019m hear for the people; I\u2019m not here for the politics, I\u2019m not here for the artists, I\u2019m here for the people. And that\u2019s what I signed up to do.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven when the bad news came, she didn\u2019t panic,\u201d he explains. \u201cShe was extremely hurt, but the thing was like, \u2018OK, how do we make everybody in the world feel hugged at this horrible time?\u2019 It turned [the show] into something that was heavy, but her family was there, our kids were there, and she did it.
