The track is off Crutchfield\u2019s upcoming album <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mergerecords.com\/saint-cloud\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Saint Cloud<\/em><\/a>, out March 27th via Merge Records.<\/p>\n<p>Directed by Ashley Connor, the clip features dancer Marlee Grace making her way through a warehouse, eyes on the camera as she pirouettes and stretches across empty chairs. She steps outside in the rain, mouthing the lyrics as the lens catches condensation: \u201cAnd the lilacs drink the water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLilacs\u201d is the final song Crutchfield created for <em>Saint Cloud<\/em>, which she wrote at her piano in Kansas City. She cut lilac flowers from her front yard and dropped them in glass bottles of Topo Chico water, decorating the top of her piano with them. \u201cLilacs have a longer lifespan if they drink soda water,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/waxahatchee-saint-cloud-interview-940483\/\">recently joked to <em>Rolling Stone.<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;\u201cA little tip from me to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With lyrics like \u201cI get so angry, baby\/at something you might say\/I dream about an awful stranger, work my way through the day,\u201d the song tackles the negative and obsessive thoughts Crutchfield was experiencing at the time. \u201cI was just in a bad mood,\u201d she admitted. \u201cThrough all of my personal growth and the path that I\u2019ve been on, you have these days where you slip back into bad behavior and patterns of thought. When I wrote that chorus, I was like, \u2018All right, we\u2019re going to make this a little bit of a light at the end of the tunnel.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLilacs\u201d follows the lead single <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/waxahatchee-fire-new-album-tour-937602\/\">\u201cFire.\u201d<\/a> Crutchfield will embark on a spring tour in support of <em>Saint Cloud<\/em>, kicking off in Detroit on April 10th. She\u2019ll make stops along the East Coast \u2014 including two consecutive nights in Brooklyn \u2014 before passing through the Southwest on her way to the West Coast.
