{"id":804355,"date":"2020-02-19T08:00:16","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T15:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=954593"},"modified":"2020-02-19T08:00:16","modified_gmt":"2020-02-19T15:00:16","slug":"man-man-announce-new-album-destroy-world-with-single-cloud-nein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/man-man-announce-new-album-destroy-world-with-single-cloud-nein\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Man Announce New Album, Destroy World With Single \u2018Cloud Nein\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/manman-2020-promo-01-danmonick-2100x1504-300.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>You could never accuse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/man-man\/\" id=\"auto-tag_man-man\" data-tag=\"man-man\">Man Man<\/a> of being an upbeat band: cannibals, wolfmen and plenty of heartbreak litter the Philly\/L.A. band\u2019s catalog, going all the way back to their debut, 2004\u2019s<em> The Man in a Blue Turban With a Face<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Man Man\u2019s upcoming LP, <a href=\"https:\/\/megamart.subpop.com\/releases\/man_man\/dream_hunting_in_the_valley_of_the_in_between\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between<\/em><\/a>, out May 1st, is perhaps their most devastating yet. There may be fewer obvious monsters this time, but there are demons aplenty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a while since our last album and to say it was a hell of a ride to get here would be an understatement,\u201d frontman and sole remaining original member Ryan Kattner (a.k.a. Honus Honus) tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cIn hindsight, if it weren\u2019t for all the roadblocks and heartbreaks, I don\u2019t think the best album of my career would\u2019ve been forced out of me. Life is complicated. Find the joy when and where you can because it can all be over before you know it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After cycling through members \u2014 and labels \u2014 Kattner and Co. landed with Sub Pop for their sixth studio album, the followup to 2013\u2019s <em>On Oni Pond<\/em>. The first single, \u201cCloud Nein,\u201d drops Wednesday via a quirky lyric video directed by Kattner himself that features only clipart. In it, an old man dances down the street as Kattner sings, \u201cNothing ever lasts\/ haven\u2019t you learned this by now?\/ Where you born in a briar with your head upside down?\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>Despite the characteristic negativity of the song, the music belies its darker side, finding Kattner wailing on the chipper-sounding chorus, \u201cI don\u2019t wanna know if\/ you\u2019re living on cloud nein\/ I don\u2019t wanna know if\/ you\u2019re living in denial.\u201d In the end, a meteor crashes into the planet where the old man dances, negating his frolic in the sun.<\/p>\n<p><em>Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between<\/em> follows Kattner\u2019s 2016 solo album as Honus Honus, <em>Use Your Delusion<\/em>. <em>Dream Hunting<\/em> was produced by Cyrus Ghahremani, mixed by S. Husky H\u00f6skulds (Tom Waits, Solomon Burke, Bettye LaVette, Allen Toussaint) and mastered by Dave Cooley (Blood Orange, M83, DIIV, Paramore, Snail Mail, clipping).
