Ella O\u2019Connor Williams, is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/squirrel-flower-interview-951303\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s latest Artist You Need to Know<\/a>. In a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/video\/\" id=\"auto-tag_video\" data-tag=\"video\">video<\/a> for the series, Williams cooks risotto, gives a tour of her home, and discusses her great debut album, <em>I Was Born Swimming<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe weather was perfect, in my opinion,\u201d she recalls of the clip, which opens with Williams outside her home in Arlington, Massachusetts, walking through the woods with an umbrella. \u201cIt was rainy and moody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams goes on to explain the origin of <em>I Was Born Swimming<\/em>, named after the circumstances of her birth \u2014 she was born en-caul, completely wrapped inside a membrane full of amniotic fluid \u2014 and to guide <em>RS<\/em> through the home where she grew up. She points to items hung on her bedroom wall: childhood photographs, paintings, a magazine cut-out of Joni Mitchell, and artwork from her college punk band, Alien Girls.<\/p>\n<p>When she was nine years old, Williams\u2019 dad bought her a mini electric guitar and a Led Zeppelin compilation CD. \u201cI remember listening to it on the ride home and I was just crying in the backseat,\u201d she says. \u201cI was like, \u2018This is so sick and so beautiful, and I need to make music like this.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>Clips of Williams performing at open mics in Boston flash across the screen, as she describes overcoming stage fright. During her freshman year of college at Grinnell in Iowa, she took the spring semester off to record an EP using her childhood nickname, Squirrel Flower.<\/p>\n<p>She also walks through her songwriting process: \u201cI do find that the best songs happen literally right when I wake up \u2014 as cheesy as it sounds \u2014 or walking around or driving.
