Two hours later, in a surprise move, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area officials announced they would open the ski area that afternoon. As the news broke, skiers scrambled for first chair.<\/p>\n<p>That was Keystone Resort General Manager Jody Churich\u2019s third day at work.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the chaos, Churich said opening day was amazing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, the team here is absolutely so experienced and so in love with what they do and with Keystone,\u201d Churich said.&nbsp;\u201cPeople here love what they do and are passionate about snowsports, and it\u2019s just been an amazing environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Churich, who is the second female general manager at Keystone Resort, came to Colorado via Utah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came by way of Park City and was in Park City for the last seven years,\u201d Churich said. \u201cFor the last year, I was working for Vail as the senior director of skier services \u2014 so overseeing all of the ski schools, product sales and services \u2014 and before that I was the chief operating officer for Woodward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She and her husband moved to Summit County with their dog as empty nesters, and she felt Keystone was a good fit for her.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally the brand fit for me was ideal because I come from a lot of youth action sports and really kids programming,\u201d Churich said.&nbsp;\u201cAnd that\u2019s where my passion is, is in youth sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her experience working with children also ties into her vision for what she wants to bring to Keystone: inspiration for kids to progress in their snowsports passions and to strengthen Keystone\u2019s family experience.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p402_hide\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/02\/Jody-SDN-022020-3-683x1024.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-379227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/02\/Jody-SDN-022020-3-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/02\/Jody-SDN-022020-3-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/02\/Jody-SDN-022020-3-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/02\/Jody-SDN-022020-3-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.summitdaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/02\/Jody-SDN-022020-3.jpg 1365w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\"><figcaption><strong>Keystone Resort General Manager Jody Churich enjoys a morning ski Wednesday, Feb. 19.<\/strong><br \/><em>Liz Copan \/ <a href=\"mailto:ecopan@summitdaily.com\">ecopan@summitdaily.com<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Churich also talked about being a woman in leadership in the snowsports industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that I\u2019m most stoked about in joining Vail is the new POWDER initiative, which is about providing opportunities for women, diversity, equality and respect,\u201d Churich said.&nbsp;\u201c\u2026 It\u2019s just so inspiring to be able to be a role model for other women coming up in this industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Churich also said she is surrounded by a lot of next-generation leaders within Vail Resorts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMyself and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/beth-howard-nadia-guerriero-took-different-paths-to-top-jobs-at-vail-beaver-creek\/\">Beth Howard at Vail and Nadia Guerriero at Beaver Creek<\/a>, the three of us being in Colorado together as leaders within Vail is really inspiring for me,\u201d Churich said.&nbsp;\u201cIt\u2019s so cool to be part of a group of women that are doing such great things in this industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2006, Churich and Pat Campbell became the first female general managers in the industry. At the time, Churich was at Boreal Mountain Resort and Soda Springs Mountain Springs in California, and Campbell was at Keystone.
