Tim Wu) met years ago as high school classmates in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They\u2019ve since found success in their respective fields, and more recently they\u2019ve teamed up as Diplomacy, a duo whose new single, \u201cUndertow,\u201d is a brooding, triumphant track worth hearing. A<span> mid-tempo rocker with a sparse beat that churns and grinds its way towards a chorus you can\u2019t help but feel, this song is like picnicking on Valentine\u2019s Day under dark gray skies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Falahee, who says his childhood soundtrack was equal parts Nirvana and Broadway musicals, sings in a tone that\u2019s at once raw and lived-in, like someone who\u2019s really been through some stuff:<\/p>\n<p><em>I know I\u2019m not the most eloquent<\/em><br \/><em>Always hide behind a cigarette<\/em><br \/><em>Fighting fires burning in my head<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While Diplomacy\u2019s previous single, \u201cSilver Lake Queen,\u201d was all jangly guitars and frenetic quips, \u201cUndertow\u201d soaks in slow-burning synths and an electro-pop undercurrent, inspired by Wu\u2019s dance music background (he\u2019s remixed tracks by everyone from Katy Perry to Lorde).
