Alanis Morissette<\/a> has released a new song called \u201cSmiling,\u201d the second single from her upcoming album Such Pretty Forks in the Road<\/em>, out May 1st.<\/p>\n

On the morose yet ultimately uplifting track, Morissette reflects on her existence as a \u201cbottom dweller,\u201d dealing with the ups and downs of life as they come and mulling over personal failings. \u201cThis is my first wave of the white flag\/This is the sound of me hitting bottom,\u201d she sings. \u201cThis my surrender, if that\u2019s what I call it\/In the anatomy of my crash.\u201d Rather than giving up, though, Morissette finds herself at peace with her imperfection.<\/p>\n

Morissette originally co-wrote \u201cSmiling\u201d with Michael Farrell (Morrissey, Macy Gray) for the Broadway production Jagged Little Pill the Musical<\/em><\/a>, inspired by Morissette\u2019s classic 1995 album of the same name. She\u2019s had some fun promoting the musical, disguising herself and busking on the subway<\/a> with Jimmy Fallon in a recent Tonight Show<\/em> segment.<\/p>\n

To commemorate Jagged Little Pill<\/em>\u2018s 25th anniversary \u2014 and in support of her new album \u2014 Morissette will be heading out on tour this summer<\/a>, backed by fellow Nineties stalwarts Liz Phair and Garbage. On Friday, she announced a European leg of the tour, kicking off September 23rd in Copenhagen.<\/p>\n
