Bob Seger<\/a> dropped a lyric video for the title track to Against the Wind,<\/em> which turns 40 years old Friday. The clip follows the lyric video for \u201cNight Moves,\u201d<\/a> on his newly launched YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

Classic Seger imagery \u2014 animated horses, motorcycles, and vast American highways \u2014 flash across the screen with each line of the rollicking track. \u201cIt seems like yesterday,\u201d he sings, \u201cBut it was long ago\/Janey was lovely, she was the queen of my nights\/There in the darkness with the radio playing low.\u201d<\/p>\n

Released on February 25th, 1980, with his Silver Bullet Band, Against the Wind<\/em> is Seger\u2019s only Number One album. \u201cKnowing the difference between when people are using you and when people truly care about you, that\u2019s what \u2018Against the Wind\u2019 is all about,\u201d he told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> of the track in 1980. \u201cThe people in that song have weathered the storm, and it\u2019s made them much better that they\u2019ve been able to do it and maintain<\/em> whatever relationship. To get through is a real victory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seger wrapped up his extensive farewell tour<\/a> last fall. He finally launched his catalog<\/a> on streaming services in 2017, making him one of the last major artists to do so. However, many of his earliest records, like Smokin\u2019 O.P.\u2019s<\/em> and Back in \u201972,<\/em> remain unavailable both digitally and in print. \u201cJack White is always asking me about that,\u201d he explained<\/a> in 2018. \u201cHe wants to remix them all and said he\u2019d do it for free. Maybe when I retire I\u2019ll get serious about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
