Since he was too young to attend, he drew the concert as he imagined it.<\/p>\n<p>The drawing, along with others, inspired Ross to create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tinyconcert\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">@TinyConcert<\/a>, an Instagram account that features short videos of bands drawn with a ballpoint pen \u2014 \u201cJust as I would have when I was a kid,\u201d he tells <em>Rolling Stone.<\/em> \u201cI keep all my mistakes. It\u2019s the smudges and stray lines that give these characters their charm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since 2018, Ross has drawn acts like Alice Cooper, Mot\u00f6rhead, Bad Brains and the Ramones, the latter of which was reposted by Johnny Ramone\u2019s widow, Linda. \u201cGetting likes and hearts from Linda has been big motivator for me,\u201d he says. \u201cNot to mention a hugely supportive Instagram audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last fall, Ross received an unexpected email: Would he be interested in making a music video for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/pearl-jam\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pearl-jam\" data-tag=\"pearl-jam\">Pearl Jam<\/a>? \u201cYou can imagine how thrilled I was,\u201d he says. \u201cEspecially when I learned that [bassist] Jeff Ament was a fan of Tiny Concert already. Yes, I\u2019m bragging.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Ross, Eddie Vedder thought that Tiny Concert would be perfect for \u201cSuperblood Wolfmoon,\u201d the band\u2019s second single off their upcoming LP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/pearl-jam-new-album-gigaton-tour-936423\/\"><em>Gigaton.<\/em><\/a> \u201cWhen I heard the song, I was all in,\u201d Ross says.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fYSazphh_C8?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ross\u2019 artistic approach has always been to keep the animation concise, so that viewers can watch it over and over again; he\u2019d never made a full-length music video before. He also had only drawn punk and metal bands and had reservations about the grunge group. \u201cI had a moment where I thought maybe this is too scribbly for a band like Pearl Jam,\u201d he admits. \u201cThe response from the team was \u2018NOOOOOO!\u2019 which was what I needed to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than a thousand drawings, a handful of empty Bic pens and two sleepless months later, the video for \u201cSuperblood Wolfmoon\u201d was complete. Unlike most of his work, Ross says the entire process was collaborative. \u201cI\u2019m usually sketching, thinking and fretting about the details in private,\u201d he says. \u201cBut this time I had the support of the entire Pearl Jam team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Branching out and creating a full-length music video for Pearl Jam was a chance for Ross to do something new. \u201cThis project has drawn a direct line to cool people and keeps presenting new places to take my drawings,\u201d he says. \u201cGetting to add Pearl Jam to my portfolio is a perfect example of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Ross, his ultimate Tiny Concert dream is to draw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Xt056fQX2RU\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.<\/a> \u201cThat\u2019s right,\u201d he says proudly. \u201cMuppets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeyond that, I have a long list of songs that keeps growing every day,\u201d he adds. \u201cSo, get ready for more smudgy Tiny Concert creations for a long time to come!\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/pearl-jam-superblood-wolfmoon-tiny-concert-957005\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Keith Ross was a 10-year-old growing up in New Jersey, Black Sabbath came to town.
