Conor Oberst<\/a> and Phoebe Bridgers<\/a> play Conan<\/a><\/em> production assistants on Meet the Conan Staff<\/em>, the host\u2019s new digital series<\/a> on YouTube.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I sort of stumbled into the role of being the voice of the emo and indie rock movement,\u201d Oberst says, introducing himself to the camera in an Office<\/em>-like tone. \u201cBut that was just to pay the bills. Really, I wanted to break into late-night television production. I guess you could say I\u2019m the Happy Gilmore<\/em> of emo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oberst acknowledges he doesn\u2019t get special treatment just because he was a famous musician. \u201cEveryone at Conan<\/em> is super understanding and really trying to help me,\u201d he says, while writers knock stacks of paper out of his hand and scream at him for randomly bursting into song. O\u2019Brien even arrives in the conference room and takes Oberst\u2019s guitar out of his hands, smashing it to the ground.<\/p>\n

In contrast, Bridgers is a celebrated assistant, who\u2019s applauded for singing about coffee as the staff chants her name. \u201cYeah, I\u2019ll probably do this for a while,\u201d she says bluntly. \u201cBut it\u2019s kind of a bullshit job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meet the Conan Staff<\/em> is the first scripted original series from Team Coco. The episodes will launch weekly on YouTube, beginning February 25th. Comedians Chris Fleming and Ever Mainard are also set to appear.<\/p>\n

Bridgers and Oberst formed the supergroup Better Oblivion Community Center<\/a> in 2018. In May, Oberst will tour with Bright Eyes<\/a> for the first time in nearly a decade. They\u2019ll perform three consecutive nights at Los Angeles\u2019 Hollywood Palladium from May 21st through 23rd before heading to the East Coast.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Bridgers is on the cusp of releasing a new solo album<\/a> \u2014 following her 2017 debut Stranger in the Alps<\/em>. She\u2019ll support the 1975 on their upcoming North American tour. <\/a><\/p>\n
