{"id":804550,"date":"2020-02-24T20:49:38","date_gmt":"2020-02-25T03:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=957656"},"modified":"2020-02-24T20:49:38","modified_gmt":"2020-02-25T03:49:38","slug":"real-estate-rise-above-crushing-weight-on-new-song-the-main-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/real-estate-rise-above-crushing-weight-on-new-song-the-main-thing\/","title":{"rendered":"Real Estate Rise Above \u2018Crushing Weight\u2019 on New Song \u2018The Main Thing\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/shutterstock_editorial_10359762j.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/real-estate\/\" id=\"auto-tag_real-estate\" data-tag=\"real-estate\">Real Estate<\/a> songwriter Martin Courtney attempts an \u201cinspirational anthem\u201d with \u201cThe Main Thing,\u201d the title-track from the indie-rock band\u2019s upcoming fifth LP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the crushing weight of all that\u2019s on our plate\/Despite the true significance of everything at stake\/I will stay true\/The main thing,\u201d the frontman sighs over gleaming guitars.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Courtney detailed his mindset behind the song. \u201c\u2018The Main Thing\u2019 is my attempt at writing an inspirational anthem for anyone who\u2019s ever been in an existential crisis\u2026specifically, me,\u201d he said. \u201cI was asking myself a lot of uncomfortable questions throughout the process of making this album.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWondering if being an artist is irresponsible or selfish, particularly with the world in the state that it\u2019s in, particularly as a parent of young kids,\u201d he continued. \u201cThis was the last song I wrote for this album, and I think it kind of distills where I found myself at the end of what turned out to be a long and extremely rewarding process: psyched on the power of music, for real!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Courtney noted that song\u2019s lyrics are \u201csort of tongue-in-cheek\u201d but with a \u201cvery real\u201d sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically\u2026when life gets tough, when the stresses start piling up, when you start second guessing every decision you\u2019ve made, what do you do?\u201d he added. \u201cYou double down on the thing that makes you happy, the thing that feeds your soul. It might be corny to say, but it really is important to be true to who you are and do what you believe in, whatever that may be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Main Thing<\/em> is out February 28th via Domino.
