Throwing Muses<\/a> get nautical on the thrashing new song \u201cDark Blue.\u201d The track is the lead single off the band\u2019s new album, Sun Racket<\/em>, out May 22nd on Fire Records.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I were a better dreamer, you\u2019d be a dream come true,\u201d Kristin Hersh seethes on \u201cDark Blue.\u201d She sings over a crunching guitar riff, swimming through the dark waters of the chorus before repeating \u201cComing down\u201d over and over, making her way back to shore.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll it asked of us was to commingle two completely disparate sonic vocabularies: one heavy noise, the other delicate music box,\u201d Hersh said in a statement. \u201cTurns out we didn\u2019t have to do much. Sun Racket<\/em> knew what it was doing and pushed us aside, which is always best. After 30 years of playing together, we trust each other implicitly but we trust the music more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throwing Muses appeared at the Cure\u2019s Pasadena Daydream Festival<\/a> in August alongside the Cure, Pixies, Deftones, Mogwai and others. They have yet to announce future shows.<\/p>\n

Sun Racket<\/em> is the band\u2019s 10th album, following 2013\u2019s Purgatory\/Paradise. <\/em>\u201cWe all have big muscles when it comes to this shit, and we are so nice you would think we were doormats,\u201d Hersh told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in 2013. \u201cSomething about the pairing of balls and kindness is what attracts me to these people.\u201d<\/p>\n

A special edition of Sun Racket<\/em> will be pressed on violet vinyl. The LP is currently available for pre-order.<\/a><\/p>\n
