Car Seat Headrest<\/a> unveiled a new song, \u201cCan\u2019t Cool Me Down,\u201d on Wednesday. The track is the lead single off their new album Making a Door Less Open<\/em>, out May 1st via Matador Records. They\u2019re also hitting the road this spring and summer.<\/p>\n

Clocking in at five minutes, \u201cCan\u2019t Cool Me Down\u201d features shimmering synths and frontman Will Toledo\u2019s falsetto. \u201cI craw like an animal to ya,\u201d he repeats over and over.<\/p>\n

The single is a collaboration between Toledo and 1 Trait Danger, an electronic side project featuring drummer Andrew Katz and Toledo\u2019s alternative persona, Trait.<\/p>\n

\u201cBob Dylan said, \u2018If someone\u2019s wearing a mask, he\u2019s gonna tell you the truth\u2026if he\u2019s not wearing a mask, it\u2019s highly unlikely,’\u201d Toledo said of the alt-persona<\/a>. \u201cHe never actually wore a mask onstage so I don\u2019t know why he said that. But I decided to start wearing a mask for a couple of reasons. One, I still get nervous being onstage with everybody looking at me. If everyone is looking at the mask instead, then it feels like we\u2019re all looking at the same thing, and that is more honest to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo, music should be about enjoying yourself, especially live music<\/a>, and I think of this costume as a way to remind myself and everyone else to have some fun with it,\u201d he continued. \u201cI don\u2019t think it changes anything else about the songs or how you feel about them to be able to drop it for a second and have fun with it. If you can\u2019t do that then you\u2019re in a bad place.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Toledo, Making a Door Less Open<\/em> took four years to make. It\u2019s the first new music from the band since 2016\u2019s critically acclaimed Teens of Denial<\/em><\/a>. The band released Twin Fantasy<\/em><\/a>, a re-recorded version of their 2011 LP, in 2018. They dropped a live album, Commit Yourself Completely<\/em>, last summer. Toledo also produced<\/a> Stef Chura\u2019s album Midnight. <\/em><\/p>\n
