Normani<\/a> joins SZA<\/a> and Megan Thee Stallion<\/a> on the cover<\/a> of the Rolling Stone<\/em> Women\u2019s Issue. In between photoshoots, the singer\/dancer sat down for the latest installment of \u201cThe First Time<\/a>,\u201d discussing her first time performing solo (at the Billboard Music Awards) and her first time working as a brand ambassador for Savage x Fenty.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I worked for the brand was as the fashion show,\u201d she remembers. \u201cIt was crazy. It\u2019s not every day that I\u2019m just on stage dancing hard, jigging, in lingerie. And I\u2019m a very, you know\u2026I\u2019ve got some girls<\/em> up here, so I was like, \u2018God, as long as I don\u2019t come out, I\u2019m good. And if I do, then this is the place.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Since going the solo route in her career, Normani<\/a> has made steps to ensure that her work feels like her own. \u201cHonestly, I learned a lot this past year, in 2019,\u201d she says. \u201cI feel like it was the year that God definitely showed me just a lot of things, just in terms of me as a businesswoman, not necessarily or solely as an artist. There were so many hats that I had to wear, there\u2019s nothing that I\u2019m not involved in, especially because I like to be so hands-on, and I\u2019m very specific.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThere\u2019s no one that knows or cares as much about your craft [as] you. I\u2019m telling you, you gotta have an amazing support system around you, but as much or as bad as you want something, nobody is ever gonna want that for you as much as you do.\u201d<\/p>\n
