Flavor Flav<\/a> has issued a cease-and-desist against the Bernie Sanders<\/a> campaign following news that Chuck D \u2014 under the moniker Public Enemy<\/a> Radio \u2014 planned to perform at the Democratic candidate\u2019s Los Angeles rally Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The letter<\/a>, sent to Sanders Friday by Flavor Flav\u2019s lawyer Matthew Friedman, accuses the campaign of using the hypeman\u2019s \u201cunauthorized likeness, image and trademarked clock\u201d to promote the rally, even though Flavor Flav \u201chas not endorsed any political candidate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Chuck is certainly free to express his political view as he sees fit \u2014 his voice alone does not speak for Public Enemy,\u201d the letter states. \u201cThe planned performance will only be Chuck D of Public Enemy, it will not be a performance by Public Enemy. Those who truly know what Public Enemy stands for know what time it is, there is no Public Enemy without Flavor Flav.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In a handwritten note at the bottom of the cease-and-desist, Flavor Flav wrote to Sanders, \u201cHey Bernie, don\u2019t do this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the cease-and-desist letter, the Public Enemy Radio performance \u2014 featuring Chuck D performing that rap group\u2019s music alongside DJ Lord, Jahi and the S1Ws \u2014 will continue as scheduled Sunday, a rep for Chuck D told Rolling Stone<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement to Rolling Stone<\/em>, Chuck D said of his band mate, \u201cFlavor chooses to dance for his money and not do benevolent work like this. He has a year to get his act together and get himself straight or he\u2019s out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A lawyer for Chuck D added, \u201cFrom a legal standpoint, Chuck could perform as Public Enemy if he ever wanted to; he is the sole owner of the Public Enemy trademark. He originally drew the logo himself in the mid-80\u2019s, is also the creative visionary and the group\u2019s primary songwriter, having written Flavor\u2019s most memorable lines.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A rep from the Sanders campaign did not respond to Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a series of tweets Sunday, Chuck D outlined why he\u2019s supporting Sanders even though he hates \u201cthe party bullshit.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

There ain\u2019t a candidate running that can answer to 3 Black struggling generations living in the same crib, same time. If y\u2019all don\u2019t know THIS-it\u2019s a bad problem,\u201d the rapper tweeted<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI dig aspects of Bern. Hate the party Bulsht. But can relate to half the issues & get forward. Use your minds & be ready to fight whoever in office.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
