{"id":804766,"date":"2020-03-01T12:47:03","date_gmt":"2020-03-01T19:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=960233"},"modified":"2020-03-01T12:47:03","modified_gmt":"2020-03-01T19:47:03","slug":"see-lovin-spoonful-members-reunite-onstage-for-first-time-in-20-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/see-lovin-spoonful-members-reunite-onstage-for-first-time-in-20-years\/","title":{"rendered":"See Lovin\u2019 Spoonful Members Reunite Onstage for First Time in 20 Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/GettyImages-1209675990.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/john-sebastian-lovin-spoonful-reunion-benefit-gig-956530\/\">As promised<\/a>, the surviving members of the Lovin\u2019 Spoonful reunited onstage for the first time in 20 years Saturday at an all-star benefit concert celebrating the Sixties hitmakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/john-sebastian\/\" id=\"auto-tag_john-sebastian\" data-tag=\"john-sebastian\">John Sebastian<\/a> and former band mates Joe Butler and Steve Boone performed together for the first time since their 2000 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, with the group delivering their hits \u201cSummer in the City\u201d and \u201cDo You Believe in Magic?\u201d Sebastian also played his solo single \u201cWelcome Back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hUlw3DrVzT0?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Micky Dolenz, Carnie Wilson, Dave Alvin, Iain Matthews, Susan Cowsill and more covered the Lovin\u2019 Spoonful\u2019s music at the Glendale, California benefit concert, the Wild Honey Orchestra\u2019s annual show in support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autismhc.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Autism Think Tank<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the lead-up to the performance, Sebastian reiterated that the concert was not a proper Lovin\u2019 Spoonful reunion, since co-founding member Zal Yanovsky died in 2002.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019m delighted to be honored this month by the Wild Honey Orchestra, the musical team that\u2019s doing an Autism Think Tank benefit this year in Glendale, California. And this year their subject is the Lovin\u2019 Spoonful,\u201d Sebastian said in a statement, noting that the performance isn\u2019t a true Lovin\u2019 Spoonful reunion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since Steve, Joe and I agreed to attend, I\u2019ve gotten correspondence about a Lovin\u2019 Spoonful \u2018reunion,\u2019 and I want to clarify. Spoonful reunions without Zalman (Zal) Yanovsky are more like get-togethers. Most of the music at the show is played by a great assortment of studio musicians, not always including us.
