Megan Thee Stallion, who real name is Megan Pete, recently filed suit against 1501 Entertainment, alleging that the contract she had signed with the label when she was 20 was <\/span><span>\u201cnot only entirely unconscionable, but ridiculously so,\u201d putting the label in a position to \u201cliterally do nothing, while at the same time taking for themselves the vast majority of Pete\u2019s income from all sources.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pete signed a new management deal with Roc Nation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.okayplayer.com\/music\/megan-thee-stallion-signs-to-roc-nation.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">in September<\/a> following a string of radio hits, from \u201cBig Ole Freak\u201d to \u201cCash Shit\u201d to \u201cHot Girl Summer.\u201d In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/yoyotrav\/status\/1234230465608986625?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tmz.com%2F2020%2F03%2F02%2Fmegan-thee-stallion-lawsuit-contract-record-label-1501-certified-entertainment%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">video posted to Instagram<\/a> over the weekend, the rapper said that Roc Nation initially alerted her to some of the unsavory aspects of her original contract. <\/span><span>The rapper claimed that 1501 Entertainment gets to take home 60% of her recording income, 30% of her touring income, and 30% of the money she makes off merchandise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI was like 20, and I didn\u2019t know everything that was in that contract,\u201d Pete explained. \u201cSo when I got with Roc Nation, I got management \u2014 real management \u2014 and real lawyers. They were like, \u2018Do you know that this is in your contract?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Oh, damn, that\u2019s crazy \u2014 no, I didn\u2019t know.&#8217;\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p><span>The rapper said that when she attempted to renegotiate her contract \u2014 a fairly standard move after an artist has a run of hits \u2014 \u201cit all went bad.\u201d \u201cIt all went left,\u201d she continued. \u201cNow they tellin\u2019 a bitch she can\u2019t drop no music.\u201d On Sunday, she <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theestallion\/status\/1234230244162330625?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1234230244162330625&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vulture.com%2F2020%2F03%2Fmegan-thee-stallion-claims-label-drama-blocking-album-drop.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">started tweeting<\/a> \u201c#FREEMEG\u201d and \u201c#FREETHEESTALLION.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The court initially sided with Pete and Roc Nation. A judge demanded that 1501 Entertainment \u201cdo nothing to prevent the release, distribution, and sale of Pete\u2019s new records.\u201d In addition, the judge ordered the label \u201cto refrain from threatening or posting any threatening any retaliatory social media posts or threats against Pete\u201d and \u201cto not intentionally falsify, alter, spoil, hide, transfer, or otherwise destroy any documents, evidence or recordings related to Pete in any way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are very happy the Court granted our [temporary restraining order] application and thrilled that the world should be able to now hear Megan\u2019s new music on March 6,\u201d said Richard Busch, who is Pete\u2019s attorney, in a statement. \u201cWe will now proceed with the other claims set forth in the Petition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A judge will decide where to end or extend the temporary restraining order March 13.
