Joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/facebook\/\" id=\"auto-tag_facebook\" data-tag=\"facebook\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/twitter\/\" id=\"auto-tag_twitter\" data-tag=\"twitter\">Twitter<\/a>, TikTok \u2014 which has been exploding in both user growth and employee count around the world in recent months \u2014 is the latest major tech company to pull out of the March festival in light of safety concerns from the ongoing coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTikTok has decided not to participate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/sxsw\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sxsw\" data-tag=\"sxsw\">SXSW<\/a> this year. While we think the risk is relatively low, we are erring on the side of caution as we prioritize safety for our team, creators, partners, artists, and brands,\u201d the company says in a statement to <i>Rolling&nbsp;Stone.<\/i>&nbsp;\u201cWe are looking at a variety of alternative ways to bring parts of the previously scheduled experience to audiences in creative new forms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SXSW said in a statement last week that the festival had seen a \u201chandful of cancellations\u201d because of the coronavirus, but it hadn\u2019t seen more any cancellations than usual. Among those was China Gathering, a platform that\u2019s brought Chinese entrepreneurs and musicians to SXSW for the past three festivals.<\/p>\n<p><span>But more than <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/enrichment\/arts-culture\/485476-cancel-sxsw-petition-asks-amid-coronavirus-outbreak\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><span>20,000 people have called for the event<\/span><\/a><span> to be canceled via online petition, citing the risks of gathering a mass-scale global community in one place.
