Schuyler\u2019s Harlem Renaissance-era novel that will premiere October 2020 as part of New York theatrical company <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewgroup.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the New Group<\/a>\u2019s 2020 to 2021 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>12 Years a Slave<\/em> screenwriter John Ridley will provide <em>Black No More<\/em>\u2019s book, with renowned Tony-winning choreographer Bill T. Jones and director Scott Elliott also onboard. Tony-nominated actress Jennifer Damiano, <em>Hamilton<\/em> vet Brandon Victor Dixon, Tamika Lawrence and Theo Stockman will also be part of the cast when the musical opens at the Pershing Square Signature Center this fall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The New Group said of the musical adaptation: \u201cIt\u2019s June 1928 in New York City, and Howard University graduate Dr. Junius Crookman promotes a mysterious machine that promises to remove the burden of race from any person of color by turning them white \u2014 Crookman\u2019s plan to \u2018solve the American race problem.\u2019 <i>Black No More<\/i>&nbsp;is an examination of race, identity and the very nature of love.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While best known for his work with the Roots and his night job alongside Jimmy Fallon, Trotter is no stranger to acting over the past two decades, recently appearing in TV series like <em>The Deuce<\/em> and <em>Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-contextual-player\">\n<h3> Popular on Rolling Stone <\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/roots-black-thought-musical-black-no-more-963733\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Roots\u2019 Tarik \u201cBlack Thought\u201d Trotter will contribute music and lyrics to a new musical opening later this year.
