A 25-year-old secret \u2013 albeit poorly kept and widely known \u2013 can finally be confirmed: Yes, that is Pink Floyd\u2019s David Gilmour<\/a> playing one of his trademark guitar solos during a pivotal scene in the 1995 film\/techie time capsule Hackers<\/a><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sometime in The Division Bell<\/em> era, Gilmour visited the home of Guy Pratt, Pink Floyd\u2019s touring bassist since Momentarily Lapse of Reason,<\/em> while the bassist was working on music for the 1995 movie about teenage computer whizzes \u2014 including Angelina Jolie in her first big-screen role \u2014 \u201chacking the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The meet-up became an impromptu jam session that became \u201cGrand Central Station,\u201d an instrumental that appears during the film\u2019s climactic scene in the New York transit hub. Credited only to Deep Cover in the end credits, the song \u2014 while distinctly Gilmour \u2014 was never tied officially to the guitarist, and the track itself didn\u2019t feature on any of the three techno-heavy Hackers<\/em> soundtracks.<\/span><\/p>\n

That changes on Record Store Day<\/a> on April 18th, when the Hackers<\/em> soundtrack makes its vinyl debut and, with it, the first official release of Pratt and David Gilmour\u2019s \u201cGrand Central Station.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was such a fun thing to do, had to quickly knock it up at home and then David swung by and did his inimitable thing in one take,\u201d Pratt told Rolling Stone<\/em> of the quickie collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2-LP Hackers<\/em> reissue, marking the film\u2019s 25th anniversary, boasts four more tracks excised from the original soundtrack \u2014 Pratt\u2019s \u201cOne Combination\u201d and composer Simon Boswell\u2019s \u201cHackers Suite,\u201d as well as Leftfield\u2019s \u201cOpen Up\u201d and Massive Attack\u2019s \u201cProtection\u201d \u2014 and is packed in a gatefold, new notes from director Iain Softley and unreleased photos of the cast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tracks from electronic music mainstays like Underworld, Prodigy, Stereo MC\u2019s and Orbital also feature on the reissue, which will also arrive next month as a double-disc CD set complete with additional tracks from Boswell\u2019s score.<\/span><\/p>\n
