{"id":805094,"date":"2020-03-10T17:05:54","date_gmt":"2020-03-10T23:05:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=964370"},"modified":"2020-03-10T17:05:54","modified_gmt":"2020-03-10T23:05:54","slug":"coachella-and-stagecoach-are-officially-postponed-to-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/coachella-and-stagecoach-are-officially-postponed-to-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Coachella and Stagecoach Are Officially Postponed to October"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Coachella-cancelled-prewrite.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Due to the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/coronavirus\/\" id=\"auto-tag_coronavirus\" data-tag=\"coronavirus\">coronavirus<\/a> outbreak, neither the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/coachella\/\" id=\"auto-tag_coachella\" data-tag=\"coachella\">Coachella<\/a> Music and Arts Festival nor the Stagecoach Music Festival this year will take place as scheduled, organizers confirmed to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Coachella was originally slated for two consecutive weekends next month \u2014 April 10th, 11th, and 12th, followed by April 17th, 18th, and 19th \u2014 at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, about two hours outside of Los Angeles. Stagecoach was set for the weekend after, April 24th to 26th. A newly reunited Rage Against the Machine was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/rage-against-the-machine-travis-scott-frank-ocean-coachella-2020-headliners-lineup-933201\/\">set to headline<\/a> Coachella alongside Travis Scott and Frank Ocean. Multiple sources <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/coachella-music-festival-postpone-coronavirus-964858\/\">told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> on Monday<\/a> that Goldenvoice, the AEG subsidiary that organizes the festival, had been in talks with various artists\u2019 management teams about postponement for the last week, adding that the talks were still ongoing as of late Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/goldenvoice\/status\/1237516371124080641\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter post<\/a> and statement to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> Tuesday evening, Goldenvoice said: \u201c<span class=\"s1\">At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns. While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">California has confirmed over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/us\/coronavirus-us-cases.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">167 coronavirus cases<\/a> and two deaths as of Tuesday. Riverside County, which stretches from outside of Los Angeles into the Southern California desert and includes the small town of Indio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/riverside-county-coronavirus-patient-being-treated-in-rancho-mirage\/2325019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">declared a public health emergency<\/a> on Sunday after it accepted a coronavirus patient at a local hospital, and it announced a total of six cases of COVID-19 in its county on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"s1\">Coachella will now take place on October 9, 10 and 11 and October 16, 17 and 18, 2020,\u201d Goldenvoice said in its statement. \u201cStagecoach will take place on October 23, 24 and 25, 2020. All purchases for the April dates will be honored for the rescheduled October dates. Purchasers will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to obtain a refund if they are unable to attend.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in the desert this fall.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A source close to the situation told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> that the wording of Goldenvoice\u2019s statement intentionally avoided mention of the word \u201ccancel,\u201d because \u201cif they cancel, they have to refund tickets, whereas if they postpone they can hold the money much longer.\u201d Another source in the touring industry says they believe other upcoming festivals due to take place later this year are also at risk, depending on the health situation in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Coachella and Stagecoach are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/coronavirus-cancellations-music-fests-concerts-tours-964575\/\">latest music events<\/a> to be reshuffled by the virus outbreak. They are also the latest major festivals to be called off due to the coronavirus outbreak, following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sxsw-coronavirus-concerns-963951\/\">South by Southwest<\/a> in Austin and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/ultra-music-festival-postponed-coronavirus-963013\/\">Ultra Festival in Miami<\/a>. Additionally, Nashville\u2019s Tin Pan South Songwriters festival <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/tin-pan-south-festival-postponed-coronavirus-963986\/\">was postponed<\/a> because of both coronavirus fears and a recent tornado that tore through the city last week.
