{"id":805120,"date":"2020-03-11T13:33:14","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T19:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=965312"},"modified":"2020-03-11T13:33:14","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T19:33:14","slug":"ultra-music-festival-offers-extra-ultra-hour-but-no-refunds-after-coronavirus-cancellation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/ultra-music-festival-offers-extra-ultra-hour-but-no-refunds-after-coronavirus-cancellation\/","title":{"rendered":"Ultra Music Festival Offers \u2018Extra Ultra Hour,\u2019 But No Refunds, After Coronavirus Cancellation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Ultra.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/ultra-music-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ultra-music-festival\" data-tag=\"ultra-music-festival\">Ultra Music Festival<\/a> is out of action, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/coronavirus\/\" id=\"auto-tag_coronavirus\" data-tag=\"coronavirus\">coronavirus<\/a> postponed the event to 2021 \u2014 but its lackluster ticket-replacement deal for fans is drawing a different kind of attention.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to an email sent by Ultra organizers to ticket-holders around midnight Monday and reviewed by <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, would-be attendees were offered a benefit package to supplement their tickets, which the company said would be valid for the 2021 or 2022 Miami festivals \u2014 but the email made no mention of a potential refund. Ticket-holders are being given until April 9th to decide which festival they would attend.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ultra\u2019s benefits included 50% discounts for merchandise \u2014 as long as the purchase was for $250 or less \u2014 along with a free ticket to an Ultra Worldwide event and exclusive access to purchasing other Ultra Worldwide event tickets. South by Southwest, which was forced to cancel its annual festival last week, similarly notified would-be attendees through email on Friday that their tickets would be valid for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/sxsw\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sxsw\" data-tag=\"sxsw\">SXSW<\/a> festivals but also didn\u2019t specify if they would offer refunds.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>\u201cWe are allowing registrants to defer for up to three years \u2014 through the 2023 event,\u201d a SXSW spokesperson told <em>Rolling Stone.<\/em> \u201cWe are also working on other ways to add value to their deferred registration so not only will they be able to take advantage of a future SXSW but there will be extra benefits included, as well.\u201d The company did not reply to a follow-up email asking what those \u201cextra benefits\u201d may be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ultra, like most music festivals, has a <a href=\"https:\/\/ultramusicfestival.com\/ticketing-terms-conditions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">clause in its terms and conditions<\/a> that reserves the company the right to postpone their events and reschedule without issuing refunds, or to issue a comparable \u201cmake good\u201d offering in the event of an event cancellation. SXSW also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sxsw.com\/attend\/participation-credentials-terms-conditions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">has a no-refund specification in its terms and conditions.&nbsp;<\/a>Representatives for the Ultra Music Festival did not reply to multiple requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While the festivals\u2019 actions seem to operate within those terms and conditions, many Ultra ticket holders were vocal in their frustration online, angered that their only option was to keep a costly ticket for a concert they may no longer be able to attend.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.4728033472803\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">How do you cancel or \u201csuspend\u201d ultra and not give refunds???? Ultra was the first major festival in the U.S. to announce its cancellation because of COVID-19. Local Miami officials called for the cancellation early last week, and the festival was officially canceled on Friday. South by Southwest was cancelled a few hours later through a local emergency declaration from Austin mayor Steve Adler.
