Jared Polis has urged people older than 60, or those with &#8220;underlying medical conditions,&#8221; not to travel to mountain resorts.<\/strong><br \/><em>Hyoung Chang \/ The Denver Post<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>AVON \u2014 It\u2019s been less than a week since confirmation of Colorado\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/st-anthony-summit-medical-center-patient-the-first-to-test-positive-for-covid-19-in-colorado\/\">first case of the novel coronavirus in Summit County<\/a>. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were 33 cases,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/3-test-presumptive-positive-for-coronavirus-in-aspen-7-tests-pending\/\">with nine in Pitkin County<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/coronavirus-updates-eagle-county-up-to-4-confirmed-cases-as-state-total-rises-to-27\/\">four in Eagle County<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The virus tends to be more severe in people older than 60 as well as others with underlying health issues including diabetes and high blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Given the number of cases in mountain resorts, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on Wednesday asked those who are older, or have underlying health issues, to avoid coming to the mountains.<\/p>\n<p>In a Wednesday afternoon news conference, Polis warned that the state might be near a \u201ctipping point\u201d regarding the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>To help slow the spread of the virus,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/third-case-of-coronavirus-confirmed-in-eagle-county-as-gov-jared-polis-declares-state-of-emergency\/\">Polis declared a state of emergency Tuesday for Colorado<\/a>.
