The Jonas Brothers<\/a> canceled their upcoming Las Vegas residency<\/a> Friday, a day after the Nevada governor issued a declaration of emergency<\/a> due to the coronavirus<\/a> pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

The band\u2019s eight-date residency at the Park MGM \u2013 their first-ever Vegas residency \u2013 was set to begin April 1st, but will be canceled \u201cafter careful consideration and growing concern for our fans, touring staff and families\u2019 wellness,\u201d the Jonas Brothers<\/a> said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe did not make this decision lightly,\u201d the band added. \u201cWe were so excited for the opportunity to share an amazing show with you guys, but nothing is more important than everyone\u2019s health and safety. we are sad to disappoint you guys, but it\u2019s important to everyone to do what we can to keep everyone healthy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As the number of COVID-19 cases have climbed in Nevada, Las Vegas<\/a>\u2019 casinos and event spaces have buckled down on mass gatherings. Kelly Clarkson<\/a>, who was also scheduled to begin her Planet Hollywood residency on April 1st, postponed the launch of her Invincible shows until July due to the pandemic. The singer also announced her daytime show had shut down production indefinitely \u201cout of concern and care for everyone\u2019s safety.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vegas residencies are the latest cancellations and postponements to shake the live music industry<\/a>: Earlier in the week, concert giants AEG and Live Nation halted its active tours<\/a> to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Festivals like SXSW, Ultra and Big Ears have canceled this year\u2019s festivities, while Coachella, J. Cole\u2019s Dreamville and Treefort have been pushed to later in the year.<\/span><\/p>\n
