Taylor Swift<\/a> took to Instagram Stories on Sunday to ask fans to stay home amid fears that congregating will exacerbate the spread of the coronavirus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love you so much and need to express my concern that things aren\u2019t being taken seriously enough right now,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI\u2019m seeing lots of get-togethers and hangs and parties still happening. This is the time to cancel plans, actually truly isolate as much as you can and don\u2019t assume that because you don\u2019t feel sick that you aren\u2019t possibly passing something on to someone elderly or vulnerable to this.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really scary time, but we need to make sacrifices right now,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The superstar echoed the \u201cStay the Fuck Home\u201d sentiment first coined by German software engineer Florian Reifschneider, who created staythefuckhome.com<\/a> to amplify the message. According to Mashable<\/a>, the hashtag #staythefuckhome trended on Twitter for much of Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Swift joins Ariana Grande<\/a> in urging fans to self-isolate. Earlier in the day, Grande fired off a series of tweets driving the message home: \u201cIt is incredibly dangerous and selfish to take this situation that lightly,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI keep hearing from a surprising amount of people statements like \u2018this isn\u2019t a big deal\u2019\/\u2019we\u2019ll be fine\u2019\u2026 \u2018we still have to go about our lives\u2019 and it\u2019s really blowing my mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift and Grande\u2019s social posts followed a weekend of social media activity that showed people crowding to bars, restaurants and St. Patrick\u2019s Day festivities<\/a> despite the spread of COVID-19<\/a> across the U.S. According to the New York Times<\/em><\/a>, as of Sunday morning at least 2,815 people in 49 states tested positive for the virus; 59 have died.<\/p>\n

Over the last week, nearly every event, tour and festival has been canceled<\/a> in an effort to contain the coronavirus. President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency late last week<\/a>. Although citizens can still partake in activities such as walks and drives, experts strongly suggest<\/a> people avoid crowds of any kind at this juncture. In short: Stay the fuck home.<\/p>\n
