{"id":805292,"date":"2020-03-16T07:48:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-16T13:48:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=967697"},"modified":"2020-03-16T07:48:40","modified_gmt":"2020-03-16T13:48:40","slug":"harry-styles-performs-fine-line-songs-at-nprs-tiny-desk-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/harry-styles-performs-fine-line-songs-at-nprs-tiny-desk-concert\/","title":{"rendered":"Harry Styles Performs \u2018Fine Line\u2019 Songs at NPR\u2019s Tiny Desk Concert"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Screen-Shot-2020-03-16-at-9.07.33-AM.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/harry-styles\/\" id=\"auto-tag_harry-styles\" data-tag=\"harry-styles\">Harry Styles<\/a> stopped by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/npr\/\" id=\"auto-tag_npr\" data-tag=\"npr\">NPR<\/a> for an intimate Tiny Desk Concert, performing four tracks from his new album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/harry-styles-fine-line-album-review-925337\/\"><em>Fine Line<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wearing a powder blue knit sweater with a baby chicken on it, Styles launched into \u201cCherry.\u201d He then discussed the background of \u201cWatermelon Sugar\u201d: On his day off from his 2017 tour in Nashville, he saw Richard Brautigan\u2019s novel on a table and decided to name the song after that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s probably the longest it\u2019s ever taken me to finish a song,\u201d he told the audience. \u201cWe kind of liked it when we first had it, but I really hated it for a long time and it kept coming back into the mix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Styles introduced his guitarist and collaborator Mitchell Rowland to the crowd while explaining how \u201cTo Be So Lonely\u201d came together; he recorded in Peter Gabriel\u2019s Real World Studios in England.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never really done a show like this before,\u201d he told the office, before playing the closer \u201cAdore You.\u201d \u201cIt just feels like I\u2019m in the way of you working, so I apologize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The performance follows a series of covers on various shows: a rendition of Peter Gabriel\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/harry-styles-sledgehammer-peter-gabriel-howard-stern-959406\/\">Sledgehammer<\/a>\u201d on <em>The Howard Stern Show<\/em> and Joni Mitchell\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/harry-styles-joni-mitchell-big-yellow-taxi-bbc-953127\/\">Big Yellow Taxi<\/a>\u201d on BBC\u2019s Radio 2 Breakfast Show.<\/p>\n<p>Styles will embark on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/harry-styles-2020-tour-jenny-lewis-911413\/\">tour<\/a> in support of <em>Fine Line<\/em> this summer, kicking off at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on June 26th.
