Harry Styles<\/a> stopped by NPR<\/a> for an intimate Tiny Desk Concert, performing four tracks from his new album, Fine Line<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wearing a powder blue knit sweater with a baby chicken on it, Styles launched into \u201cCherry.\u201d He then discussed the background of \u201cWatermelon Sugar\u201d: On his day off from his 2017 tour in Nashville, he saw Richard Brautigan\u2019s novel on a table and decided to name the song after that.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s probably the longest it\u2019s ever taken me to finish a song,\u201d he told the audience. \u201cWe kind of liked it when we first had it, but I really hated it for a long time and it kept coming back into the mix.\u201d<\/p>\n

Styles introduced his guitarist and collaborator Mitchell Rowland to the crowd while explaining how \u201cTo Be So Lonely\u201d came together; he recorded in Peter Gabriel\u2019s Real World Studios in England.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never really done a show like this before,\u201d he told the office, before playing the closer \u201cAdore You.\u201d \u201cIt just feels like I\u2019m in the way of you working, so I apologize.\u201d<\/p>\n

The performance follows a series of covers on various shows: a rendition of Peter Gabriel\u2019s \u201cSledgehammer<\/a>\u201d on The Howard Stern Show<\/em> and Joni Mitchell\u2019s \u201cBig Yellow Taxi<\/a>\u201d on BBC\u2019s Radio 2 Breakfast Show.<\/p>\n

Styles will embark on a tour<\/a> in support of Fine Line<\/em> this summer, kicking off at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on June 26th. He\u2019ll then perform three consecutive nights at New York City\u2019s Madison Square Garden from July 6th through 8th, stopping at major cities before concluding at the Forum in Los Angeles on September 6th.<\/p>\n

Following the tour, the singer will return to Madison Square Garden for \u201cHarryween,<\/a>\u201d back-to-back shows on October 30th and 31st in celebration of Halloween.<\/p>\n
