Fiona Apple<\/a> is the subject of a new profile<\/a> in the New Yorker<\/em>, written by Emily Nussbaum and published on Monday. Among other things, the feature reveals the title of Apple\u2019s upcoming album, her first in nearly eight years: Fetch the Bolt Cutters<\/em>, inspired by a line said by Gillian Anderson in the British police procedural The Fall<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Apple has been recording the whole album at her home in Los Angeles for the better part of the decade, and last week she posted a video<\/a> in which she announced \u201cmy record is done\u201d in sign language.<\/p>\n

As detailed in the profile, Apple recruited a small troupe of musicians to help out with the recording, including indie rock drummer Amy Wood, sound engineer (and Wood\u2019s father) John Would, bassist Sebastian Steinberg of the band Soul Coughing and Latin singer-songwriter Dav\u00edd Garza. The actress-model Cara Delevingne also makes a cameo appearance recording \u201cmeows\u201d for the album\u2019s title track.<\/p>\n

The band used household objects for percussion \u2014 dirt-filled oilcans, rattling seedpods, even the bones of Apple\u2019s dead dog Janet \u2014 and recorded most of Fetch the Bolt Cutters<\/em> by \u201cjamming\u201d around the house, marching around and banging on the walls.<\/p>\n

A handful of the album\u2019s track title were also revealed, including \u201cOn I Go,\u201d \u201cThe Drumset Is Gone,\u201d \u201cRack of His,\u201d \u201cKick Me Under the Table,\u201d \u201cLadies,\u201d \u201cFor Her,\u201d \u201cShameka,\u201d \u201cHeavy Balloon\u201d and \u201cI Want You to Love Me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The profile includes a scene in which Apple\u2019s sister, Amber, arrives to record vocal harmonies on a new song, \u201cNewspaper,\u201d about two women connected by their histories with the same abusive man: \u201cIt\u2019s a shame because you and I didn\u2019t get a witness!\/We\u2019re the only ones who know!\u201d Apple describes women \u2014 and the struggle to \u201cnot fall in love with the women who hate me\u201d \u2014 as being one of the album\u2019s core themes.<\/p>\n

Apple\u2019s last LP was 2012\u2019s The Idler Wheel\u2026<\/em> She\u2019s released a number of one-off singles over the past year, including the Simon & Garfunkel holiday song \u201c7 O\u2019Clock News\/Silent Night\u201d<\/a> (with Phoebe Bridgers and Matt Berninger) and a cover of the Waterboys\u2019 \u201cThe Whole of the Moon.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n
