The event was the first to take place at the new Edge venue in Hudson Yards, which overlooks New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Award-winning country artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jennifer-nettles\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jennifer-nettles\" data-tag=\"jennifer-nettles\">Jennifer Nettles<\/a> had a lively discussion with<em> Rolling Stone<\/em> senior writer Alex Morris that began by them talking her headline-worthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/jennifer-nettles-cma-awards-red-carpet-fashion-913195\/\">fashion statement<\/a> on the CMA Awards red carpet in support of women in country music. The Christian Siriano pantsuit and cape included the words \u201cPlay our f*@#in records please and thank you\u201d written on the inside by artist Alice Mizrachi.<\/p>\n<p>Their discussion quickly veered into the issue of how little women are played on country music radio. \u201cIt has become this systemic prejudice that then starts to feed on itself where radio programmers are told, \u2018Women don\u2019t want to hear other women sing.\u2019 Suddenly an actual business policy is put into place, where they will not play two women artists back to back on country radio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The day also included Emmy-winning actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv\/tv-news\/uzo-aduba-oitnb-women-shaping-future-967213\/\">Uzo Aduba<\/a>, singer-songwriter Lauren Jauregui, actress and comedian Retta, CAN-AM\u2019s Senior VP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-news\/women-shaping-future-josee-grace-potter-katori-hall-966844\/\">Jos\u00e9e Perreault, and playwright Katori Hall.<\/a> who also all spoke throughout the event about their distinct experiences as women breaking barriers in their respective industries. Performances included Grammy-nominated artist Grace Potter, Overcoats, Diana Gordon, and S.G.
