The track is off his upcoming LP<em> It Is What It Is<\/em>, out April 3rd on Brainfeeder.<\/p>\n<p>With a chorus that laments \u201cI keep holdin\u2019 you down\/Even though, you\u2019re not around\u201d and a verse that admits \u201cthings will never be the same,\u201dthe subdued track is about late rapper Mac Miller, whom Thundercat released several LPs with and was scheduled to open for on tour before Miller died in September 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he passed it shook the ground for the artist community,\u201d Thundercat said in a statement. \u201cTy\u2019s a strong dude and when he heard the song he knew exactly what it should be. I was there when he recorded it. We talked about what it was, and he did what he felt was right to it, and I love what he did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFair Chance\u201d follows the single \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/thundercat-new-song-black-qualls-album-it-is-what-it-is-937713\/\">Black Qualls<\/a>, featuring Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington and Childish Gambino, as well as the disco-tinged \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/thundercat-dragonball-durag-single-953385\/\">Dragonball Durag<\/a>,\u201d accompanied by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/thundercat-new-video-dragonball-durag-959159\/\">a video<\/a> with Haim and Kali Uchis. <em>It Is What It Is<\/em> was produced by Flying Lotus and features contributions from Childish Gambino, Kamasi Washington and more.<\/p>\n<p>Thundercat recently postponed his North American tour in wake of the coronavirus outbreak, which was scheduled to run until April 2nd in Atlanta.
