When he\u2019s not serving as Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s advice columnist<\/a> or writing a song, David Crosby<\/a> is usually on Twitter, communicating with fans and sharing his thoughts on music, politics, and climate change. Lately, he\u2019s been rating users\u2019 joints, and with the coronavirus<\/a> outbreak causing many to stay indoors under self-quarantine, it\u2019s never seemed like a better idea for this folk-rock great to grade hand-rolled bundles of cannabis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Croz began sharing his expertise at the beginning of the month, simply replying to author Jeffrey Guterman\u2019s tweet<\/a> of his smoky sunset plans with \u201cJeff\u2026I need to show you how to roll a joint.\u201d This opened the floodgates for every fan to reply \u201cGrade this one!\u201d or \u201cHow\u2019s this, Croz?\u201d<\/p>\n

Crosby started to give some serious feedback, using criteria that include each joint\u2019s consistency, girth, and end-points. He told @kathyrams<\/a> that her joint was \u201cpoor\u201d and \u201clooks like a snake who swallowed a bowling ball,\u201d while panning @CerranosChicken\u2019<\/a>s as \u201ccrumbled and puny.\u201d Our hearts go out to @HarryB1120<\/a>, who was told his joints \u201cWill certainly work but as lip art they basically suck.\u201d<\/p>\n

@stiflersmomsays<\/a> received a glowing review, with Croz saying \u201cNice work, I would smoke that.\u201d Congratulations to @thepalemale<\/a>, whose joint looks like \u201cA party waiting to happen\u2026beautiful even though it is the size of a small sex toy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Croz also debunked the myth<\/a> that he could roll a joint with one hand, and mentioned that, while he currently uses a Pax 3 vaporizer, he\u2019s rolled about 2,431,691 joints<\/a> in his lifetime. He also admitted that he uses his iconic mustache as a strainer<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a calling,\u201d he said<\/a> of his rating system. \u201cI was born to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other musicians have been driven to similarly bored pursuits in this time of quarantine, including Stephen Malkmus, who posted an absurd ranking of the songs<\/a> from Led Zeppelin IV, <\/em>and Stevie Van Zandt, who\u2019s been on the hunt for new podcasts. <\/a><\/p>\n

For musicians like Crosby, who rely on the road for their income, the postponement and canceling of tours amid the crisis is a major setback. \u201cThe streaming doesn\u2019t pay us any money,\u201d he recently told GQ<\/em><\/a>,<\/em> fearful of the upcoming tour he\u2019d slated for May<\/a>. \u201cSo live is all we got. That\u2019s it; that\u2019s the only thing I get. And if I lose live, then I lose it all. I will lose my home, because I don\u2019t have any savings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many musicians have taken to social media to encourage fans to buy artists\u2019 merchandise<\/a> during this time. Others have been livestreaming performances<\/a>, from Neil Young<\/a> to Keith Urban<\/a> to Death Cab for Cutie\u2019s Ben Gibbard.<\/a> There are also several other ways to support independent musicians<\/a>, including donating to charities that provide direct aid to musicians, buying merch, and holding onto your postponed concert tickets.<\/p>\n
