There\u2019s a song for every situation and right now R.E.M.\u2019s 1987 hit \u201cIt\u2019s the End of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)\u201d feels particularly relevant. Michael Stipe<\/a> has covered the song in part in a new coronavirus<\/a> safety video, reminding us to stay home and be cautious.<\/p>\n

In the video, shared on Stipe\u2019s website<\/a> (and in shorter form on social media), the singer performs a few lines of the seminal track and then addresses the viewers with his four rules for dealing with this situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do feel fine. I feel okay,\u201d he says. \u201cThe important part of that lyric, that song title, is \u2018As We Know It.\u2019 We\u2019re about to go through \u2013 we are going through something that none of us have ever encountered before and that is, of course, the coronavirus. And it\u2019s real and it\u2019s serious and it\u2019s here.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the longer version of the video on his website, Stipe adds that he\u2019s taking advice from friends in Italy, noting, \u201cI\u2019m bunkering. I\u2019m quarantining. I\u2019m Q.S.Q \u2013 quasi self-quarantined for several days now and that\u2019s going to continue because I don\u2019t want to go outside, I don\u2019t want to be responsible for getting someone else sick if I\u2019m already sick. I don\u2019t think I am, but none of us know if we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also encourages viewers to stay inside and to find reliable sources of information. As for hand-washing he suggests finding an upbeat, feel-good song to accompany your scrubbing. \u201cDon\u2019t sing \u2018Happy Birthday\u2019 twice,\u201d Stipe says. \u201cIt\u2019s already depressing and sad. Find another song, a good, happy, calming song \u2013 your, like, blue skies song and do that.\u201d<\/p>\n
