With this in mind, <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> has launched a new IGTV performance series, titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/in-my-room\/\" id=\"auto-tag_in-my-room\" data-tag=\"in-my-room\">In My Room<\/a>.\u201d The debut episode featured Brian Wilson playing his songs from his California home (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/igtv-in-my-room-music-series-968908\/\">watch it here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The latest episode stars one of the greatest artists in international music today: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/angelique-kidjo\/\" id=\"auto-tag_angelique-kidjo\" data-tag=\"angelique-kidjo\">Angelique Kidjo<\/a>, who calls herself a \u201cdaughter of independence\u201d because her native Benin and 16 other West African nations got their independence from France about two weeks after her birthday, which is July 14th.<\/p>\n<p>She was set to mark her 60th birthday a few months early on March 14th with a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/03\/12\/angelique-kidjo-disappointed-carnegie-hall-show-canceled-over-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">guest-filled concert at Carnegie Hall<\/a> \u2014 featuring Baaba Maal, Brittany Howard, 86-year-old Cameroonian great Manu Dibango, and Nigeria\u2019s Yemi Alade \u2014 before the event was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>In this exclusive \u201cIn My Room\u201d clip, the Grammy-winning artist performs three songs \u2014 a cover of the Rolling Stones\u2019 \u201cGimme Shelter,\u201d \u201cThe Overload,\u201d and \u201cMove On Up\u201d \u2014 from her home in Paris. \u201cMusic has always been at the center of my life; music has helped me go through hard times and create a bond between all of us,\u201d the singer explains. On her choice of the third song, she adds: \u201cHow we moving up out of here to get to the next step? How are we going to live in this ever-changing and challenging world? By keeping positive, by keeping our humanity, our love, compassion, empathy [for] a better future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>Music, for Kidjo, is all about freedom. \u201cWhen I was a little child, I felt that sense of freedom,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/03\/12\/angelique-kidjo-disappointed-carnegie-hall-show-canceled-over-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">told<\/a> the <em>New York Post<\/em> after the Carnegie Hall cancellation. \u201cI felt that I was free to go from one house to the other with no fear at all, that nothing ever could happen to me. And that\u2019s what I want to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re all experiencing this pandemic in different ways \u2014 and we\u2019re all in this together. Artists need our support, and they can also help get us through troubled times.
