John Fogerty<\/a> performs Creedence Clearwater Revival<\/a> classics in the latest installment of Rolling Stone\u2019<\/em>s \u201cIn My Room<\/a>,\u201d a new IGTV series in which musicians perform from their homes in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Fogerty\u2019s performance follows Brian Wilson<\/a>\u2018s and Angelique Kidjo<\/a>\u2018s. The clip opens with Fogerty sitting in his yard, decked in his signature flannel and accompanied by his dog named Creedence. \u201cThese are certainly different times that we\u2019re living through,\u201d he says. \u201cWash your hands \u2026 nobody really knows how long this is going to last, but the better we do at taking the advice of medical people, the shorter it will be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure we\u2019re all going stir crazy after 10 days or so of doing this,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd I thought I\u2019d go outside and get some fresh air and maybe sing a couple of songs. Be well, everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then struck the acoustic guitar with the iconic strum from \u201cHave You Ever Seen the Rain,\u201d off of 1971\u2019s Pendulum.<\/em> \u201cSomeone told me long ago\/There\u2019s a calm before the storm,\u201d he sings. \u201cI know, it\u2019s been comin\u2019 for some time.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s long been thought that \u201cHave You Ever Seen the Rain\u201d is about the Vietnam War, with the rain symbolizing bombs. However, Fogerty diffused this to Rolling Stone<\/em> in 1993, saying it was about CCR and the tension they were experiencing, ultimately leading to their breakup in 1972. \u201cThat song is really about the impending breakup of Creedence,\u201d he said. \u201cThe imagery is, you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day and it can be raining at the same time. The band was breaking up. I was reacting: \u2018Geez, this is all getting serious right at the time when we should be having a sunny day.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n

The scene then shifts to inside Fogerty\u2019s home studio, as he appears in a different flannel shirt (one must wonder what his closet looks like) and performs the beloved CCR song \u201cBad Moon Rising.\u201d \u201cLook\u2019s like we\u2019re in for nasty weather,\u201d he suspects. \u201cOne eye is taken for an eye.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the final song, \u201cLong As I Can See the Light,\u201d Fogerty relocates to a piano in his living room, flanked by candles and a fireplace behind him. He performs the tender track from 1970\u2019s Cosmo\u2019s Factory, <\/em>singing, \u201cPut a candle in the window\/\u2019Cause I feel I\u2019ve gotta move\/Though I\u2019m going, going\/I\u2019ll be coming home soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
